Interim assessments are new under ASSETS. Working with the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), the ASSETS Consortium and WIDA will develop a series of shorter, targeted interim assessments that will enable educators and students to chart student progress in finer increments and with more precision than the summative assessment. The data and reports will be designed to inform instruction.
Along with providing more information to educators, the interim assessments will provide an opportunity to pilot innovative, technology-enhanced item types that may later be transitioned to the summative assessment as appropriate. Partial-credit scoring and analysis of patterns across responses will be used to enhance the diagnostic value of the immediate feedback enabled by computerized delivery.
